On the Breeze is a colorful, intuitive painting about flying on the wind and going with the flow of life.
It began as a demonstration piece in one of my workshops, Windows to the Soul. In this process I let go and paint like a kid. I then add many layers of acrylic paint, letting each layer riff off of the layer before as the painting blooms and previous layers peek through the new layer.
As I painted this piece, I was tuning in to loose brushwork, organic lines, bright colors, and bringing in light and constrast.
When I brought the painting home I realized that a bird shape was coming through on the left side. I enhanced that area and painted a hummingbird, giving the otherwise abstract painting a recognizable element for the viewer to relate to.
